QUBD Testimonials

We would like to thank Travis from QUBD for designing a beautiful beach house for us. Travis is very easy to deal with and brought all our requirements to life. He brilliantly helped us to achieve the brief of no air conditioning through clever eco design even though our house faces west. Travis’ attention to detail ensured our house is not only comfortable and practical but also stunning. We’d recommend Travis to anyone wanting to design a home.

We had strong ideas about what we wanted our house to be like. After the inital meeting with Travis we felt bouyant because Travis embraced our ideas and allowed us to think anything was possible. Fantastic to work with: flexible and understanding of our needs. Importantly, Travis gave us crucial advice on how to avoid unnecessary build costs by simplifying the design. We couldn't be happier with the results and absolutely love our home.

We can't speak more highly of Travis Quennell from QUBD and the way he handled our home renovations. Travis came to our place and spoke with us at length about what we felt our future family needs were. We found him to be a man who meant what he said and said what he meant. This approach made it easy for us to trust his advice. We gained a more liveable home through a quality designed renovation at an affordable price, adding thousands to the value of our home. Travis was constantly in communication with us throughout the build so we always knew what was happening and when there were any issues they were resolved with a minimal of fuss. That's peace of mind!

My wife and I first met Travis whilst looking at land in the Currumbin Valley Ecovillage. We were immediately taken by his warm easygoing manner that never got in the way of him being honest with you about things. Having never built a house before and having no knowledge or skills in this field, using a project manager made sense.

Some people may wonder about the need to fork out money to yet another "player" in the whole big "building a house" money sinkhole. However we have absolutely no doubt that we have saved money in the long run by using somebody as smart, experienced, practical and resourceful as Travis. And just as importantly he came up with a finished product that we were to love and enjoy living in even more than we could have hoped.

Other people talk about the stress of designing and building a house from scratch. Our experience was far removed from this; Travis guided us deftly through all the challenges. He made what is supposed to be one of the most stressful things you can do a walk in the park.

He excels at listening to his clients and finding ways to bring out their personalities and tastes in a sustainable and economical way. He also is not afraid to go into bat for his clients when the inevitable hiccups involving various tradespeople pop up. We never had to have a difficult conversation with, or chase anybody involved in building our house.

Being such an affable and friendly guy does not stop Travis from frankly telling you when your ideas are not realistic or affordable. This is very important when building, after hearing many stories of architects/similar letting clients run wild with ideas for their dream house, only to find out months later that the cost was always going to be prohibitive.

With respect to sustainable design, I must admit I came to building an eco-friendly house with a healthy dose of skepticism. However the many ideas Travis had about how to do things resulted in a house with wonderful temperature control and a tiny power bill.

Travis was able to fill the yawning chasm between our pipe dreams and the cold hard reality of building houses, and have us come out the other side unscathed with an amazing finished product and a great new friend.

We always felt that to design and build a home was a hassle to be avoided at all cost, but when we bought a block of land in the Ecovillage, it became unavoidable.

From our first meeting with Travis, our negativity started to dissipate and it wasn't long before we'd grown confident in his ability and were excited by the journey ahead. We credit Travis with our change in attitude. He was very logical in his approach, starting with quite detailed questioning about our visions and concepts, likes and dislikes. Within a very brief period of time he'd gathered all our plans and aspirations and presented us with initial conceptual sketches that pretty near hit the mark. The journey had begun.

Through his broad range of design experience both in the UK and Australia, he was never short of anecdotes and suggestions. As a result of this along with his willingness to accept our input and ideas, our plans evolved very quickly to the point of final sign-off.

Travis has worked extensively with like-minded builders in this area, so whilst we were still in the design phase he co-ordinated meetings with them, clarified any issues that arose and arranged for quotations, all of which led to us signing a contract with a builder he'd worked with on a number of previous projects.

By this time our relationship with Travis had developed to the point where we were so confident in his abilities that we engaged him as Project Manager to oversee our build. Again his involvement proved invaluable. His very pleasant manner and experience in dealing with builders, sub-trades, engineers, certifiers etc made him invaluable. He was frequently on-site, always ready to provide input and leadership where required, flexible in his approach and willing to re-evaluate if an alternative presented. We had a painless design and build, in part because of the role Travis played over the twelve months from concept stage through to moving in to our home.

If you're in need of a Designer/Project Manager, we can't recommend Travis highly enough, not only because of his experience, diligence and untiring efforts to get the best outcomes, but also because he is just such a pleasure to deal with.
